Salmon swim upstream in order to spawn (reproduce). Their journey is far from easy. Think about the powerful rushing waters that they are swimming vigorously against to get to their birthplace to lay their eggs. Also, consider the lengthy number of days for this toilsome journey. It’s certainly not overnight. In your life you may sometimes feel like the salmon who swim upstream. It could look like a decision you made, an opinion you voiced, a stand that you took, or an action you demonstrated. You could be standing by yourself, or even have a few around you. Surrounding you could be the voice of the opposing folks who do not understand your position. Be like the salmon and continue to swim upstream. Sometimes, like the salmon you have to jump high over the rushing waters to get to the next level, and keep going. As stated, salmon swim upstream because they are going somewhere to fulfill purpose. If you keep in mind that you are going somewhere to fulfill purpose, and the way to get there is against the tide (swimming upstream), you are a force to reckon with. Stay the course! Be strong. Others are waiting for you to finish swimming upstream because your purpose is going to impact many.

Daniel 1:8 – “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”

If you continue to read the verses following verse 8, you will see that his choice enabled him to have a better physical appearance than all the young men who partook of the king’s delicacies.

Be encouraged,
